Problem

In today’s society, creating is not our strong suit. Then when we do turn off to relax for a bit, Netflix, Hulu, Tik Tok and Facebook take over. We spend more time looking at other peoples creations vs. making your own. Maker is a new subscription box that strives to bring a bit of “making” back into people’s lives.

Approach

Maker’s approach is meeting people halfway. They provide the instructions, materials, and resources to create three awesome handmade items. Projects could be anything from quilling, quilting, paper making, or even origami art. Sometimes it’s just hard to do the beginning boring stages of figuring out the details, so they made a subscription box that does the hard part, and leaves the fun part for the makers/subscribers.

Editorial

“Inspo” is a magazine for Maker Box subscribers . It includes interviews, inspirational articles for creatives, subscriber spotlights, and audits of different hobbies. It’s distributed in all subscription boxes and at retailer partners across the country. We aim to catch the attention of anyone who is creative. Our main goal is to communicate the positive impact “Making” brings: relaxation, personal exploration, refinement of motor skills and overall enjoyment. Readers takeaway new knowledge and are inspired to continue making beyond the projects in their subscription box.

Further Investigation

In future iterations, I would want to explore more projects and the detailed instructions that would be included with the projects. Further investigation on promotional material and “Inspo” Volumes would also be beneficial. This brand could also be expanded in advertisements to talk about ways to still be creative during COVID-19 times while many people are spending more time at home.
